Parenting through the Storms

We get extensive schooling to build our skills in other work.  It's a surprise that we pretty much face the biggest role in our lives as mothers with very little or no training.  Not only is each child different, each phase in their life is different.  AND each phase has different challenges for us to face.  So where can we turn to in those times?

I never thought to look deeper into the life of Mary, (um...the mother of our Savior!!!), on how to be a mother, but our guest speaker is doing just that.  For me, Li's credibility does not come in her credentials in child education or ministry, but the way that I have witnessed her personal life, in raising 2 grown adults to love the Lord, and be exemplary citizens of the world. (Also, she still understands new moms --her youngest child is in elementary school.)   I am excited for this Saturday's gathering.

We'd love for you to join us to be empowered, socialize, and share your experiences with like-minded women!  Hope to share a meaningful time with you!

p.s. Although there is a suggested donation, please do not let it deter you from coming.  The amount is not of essence, but your commitment is.

BE KIND TO YOUR FUTURE SELF

Sometimes the smallest gestures can bring such a great light into someone's life. Our first gathering of 2017 is about how you view yourself as an important member of community. What happens when we not only do things WITH each other, but FOR one another?

We'd love for you to join us, as we engage with one another, care for each other, and create with one another. For this gathering, there is limited attendance

LIGHT X PEACE TALKS: WOMEN EMPOWER WOMEN

Luminaries X ReconciliAsian present:

LIGHT X PEACE TALKS

A SERIES OF TALKS TO EQUIP WOMEN TO BE THE LIGHT AND AGENT OF PEACE IN THEIR SPHERE OF INFLUENCE.

We are so excited for this special collaboration with ReconciliAsian, www.reconciliasian.com, an organization that aims to educate and promote the culture of peacemaking and reconciliation within the Korean community through the church.

Co-director, Sue Hur, will be leading the talk this month on the topic of POWER drawing examples from women of the bible.  I think this is an important topic, because there have been times when I exerted power when I shouldn't have, and times when I have given up my power when I should have exerted it.

  • what is power?
  • what is our source of power?
  • what are the powers that we possess?
  • how have we seen power used for good? for evil?
  • how have you empowered others with the power you have?

Fee:  $5 Suggested donation

Please RSVP so we can make arrangements for refreshments.  See you then!!

Wholeness Retreat

I can't say enough how excited I am about this retreat.   Our guest speaker will be leading us on the topic of journeying from brokeness to wholeness.  Looking a the the topics of trauma and resilience through the lense of Naomi. We will draw wisdom and insight from the book of Ruth.  It's going to be amazing!!!

I don't know what it is...but I have such a strong conviction that GOD IS GOING TO TOUCH US ALL SO POWERFULLY through this weekend.  But it requires a little bit of homework...just a little, but you will take back a great deal more if you are prepared. The homework is to bring three items that represent a part of your life, which I will explain below.

1.  The first night is about influential women is our lives.  We ask that you bring a photo of a women that has deeply influenced your life (mother, mentor, public figure, celebrity...)  This is related to the theme of Trauma & Resilience because usually if this particular woman has influenced you, you have looked to her in your most difficult moments.

2.  Saturday Morning Session, we will talk about trauma, so  we ask that you bring something that symbolizes trauma in your life.  (Some examples: It could be a broken piece of pottery that represent a broken heart, a dead plant that represents a broken dream, a belonging of a loved one you lost, etc.)

3.  Saturday Afternoon Session, we will talk about resilience, so yes, bring an object that symbolizes resilience in your life. (i.e. a cactus, a rock, or it can be something like  picture of your favorite childhood memory that has kept you strong...etc.)  Symbols are subjective to each individual so something that symbolized trauma might actually symbolize resilience to another person...there is no wrong answer.

I want to encourage you to trust in this process.  There is no power in these actual objects, but there is something in our brains that when we make a physical exchange, it actually processes a mental exchange of giving up the trauma and receiving resilience better than if we were to do just do it in our thoughts.

I don't want to give away all the good things that are prepared for you.  You will just have to experience it!  But we are working, preparing, and praying for you!!!!!

GUEST SPEAKER  Sue Park-Hur is a 1.5 generation Korean American Angeleno who co-directs ReconciliAsian, a peace center that promotes unity, understanding and reconciliation in immigrant churches and communities. She also co-pastors at Mountain View Mennonite Church with her husband, Hyun Hur, in Upland, California. Guest Speaker, Anna Kang, will be speaking about the teachings from the book she co-authored called "Immanuel Journaling," and leading us in the exercise of  interactively writing with God.  It's a very intimate and powerful practice in hearing His voice.

THINGS TO BRING:

1. Journal/Pen: Please bring your own journal and pen to this meeting. We will be using it to take notes and practice a sample of the Immanuel Journaling format. We encourage you to bring something that will last you for quite some time, as we are going to be using this journal for the rest of the year. You can bring a notebook from home, bring the one from women's retreat, or purchase a new one.

2. $5 Fee:  A $5 cash fee will be collected at the beginning of this meeting and all other meetings from here on out. This money will be used to keep Luminaries running in the future. Our funds will be used to invite guest speakers, pay for refreshments, as well as other fun activities we have planned for the future months to follow. We realize that some women are in a hard place, financially. Please talk to one of us if your situation does not allow for you to pay the $5 fee. We would still love to have you, and the fee can be waived under those circumstances!
